Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones Review

Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones is the last in the Nightmares from the Deep series and it’s a pretty solid entry. It’s a little on the easy side for those used to such games, but it should keep your interest.

Picking up where previous games left off, Davy Jones has attacked your museum again, but worst of all he’s kidnapped your daughter and forced her to sacrifice herself as part of a never-ending pact. Yes, the story is distinctly wacky in nature but it rounds off the tale of Davy Jones reasonably well.

A mixture of traditional adventure and Hidden Object game, much of your time will be spent going from area to area combining items in a bid to solve a puzzle. There’s a reasonable amount of logical thought involved here so, while there’s a hints button, you shouldn’t have too much trouble figuring things out. There are Hidden Object scenes too, requiring you to pick out a list of items from a scene, but you can bypass these in favor of Mahjong. It’s nice to have that flexibility and I found myself alternating between the two to ensure there’s something different to do.

In each case, Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones is never very taxing. While some puzzles might involve a brief moment of reflection, you shouldn’t expect to get stuck for long. It’s a fun ride while it lasts though, and should take you 3 to 4 hours to wrap-up. It's also one of the better looking of G5’s games, with some effects that pop out noticeably.

As usual, Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones won’t sway those looking for a more conventional adventure game. However, as a bridge between more casual fare and the more classic adventuring titles, it’ll scratch that itch and entertain.

It's business as usual for the last installment in the Nightmares from the Deep series, but it's a fun ride.
