3 reasons why Nicki Minaj: The Empire is actually good

Nicki Minaj is as business-savvy as she is musically talented and she’s proved that by launching her own game. Designed by Glu, purveyors of other fine celebrity games like cult favorite Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, Nicki Minaj: The Empire launched on iOS and Android this week and word on the street is that it’s going to be a pretty big success. Here are just a few reasons why you should try it out.

It’s not just a dress up game
The best part of Nicki Minaj: The Empire is its social music sharing feature. You can write and record your own raps and lay them out over one of the game’s pre-recorded beats. When you’re done, share them with other players who’ll rate your covers. The best-liked songs will rise to the top of the rankings. Nicki Minaj, who’s already well known for interacting with her fans, has already been retweeting some of her favorites, and the top song of the month will be featured in some capacity. But that part’s fun too
Of course, there’s also a story mode if that’s what you’re into. There’re plenty of outfits to unlock, and you’ll have your own mansion to decorate as you rise in the ranks of stardom and compete to become the most famous rapper in the land. Sure, it ain’t deep, but it is addictive!

The soundtrack
This is a game to play with the sound on. We’re assuming you’re interested in this game because you at least have some sort of appreciation for Nicki Minaj’s music. The soundtrack is basically all of her most famous tracks, so if climbing the imaginary social ladder with Starships playing in the background sounds like a good time, then you’re in luck. Plus, Nicki recorded a brand new track just for the game, which sounds gimmicky but is actually a quality track.
Here’s what it comes down to. If you like collecting clothes and decorating imaginary Hollywood villas, or if you like rapping, or maybe if you’re just curious what all the fuss is about, you’re going to enjoy this game. It’s due fanservice for Nicki Minaj devotees, but it’s also a surprisingly excellent music mixing game with social features that are drawing in shockingly promising talent. The raps people submit are worth the download alone.
