XCOM 2 Collection on iOS now available for pre-order
The XCOM 2 Collection, which was recently announced to be coming to iOS in November, is now available to pre-order on the App Store.
It’s an isometric tactical shooter in which you control a squad of human soldiers fighting back against an extra-terrestrial regime that has taken over the planet. You take these soldiers on missions to fight back against the alien threat, reclaiming regions and recruit new people to your cause.
XCOM 2 also features a permadeath system. If a unit dies in battle, they are gone for good and you can’t get them back without reloading an earlier save. This creates tense situations as you desperately try to hold on to as many soldiers as possible in your fight against insurmountable odds.
As with its predecessor, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the game is coming to iPhone and iPad after having a successful run on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It was originally developed by Firaxis Games, but the port is being handled by Feral Interactive. Based in London, Feral Interactive is a leading publisher of games for Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch platforms. On iOS, it is best known for its ports of Rome: Total War, Tropico and Grid Autosport.
The XCOM 2 Collection includes the base game, as well as the War of the Chosen expansion and four smaller DLC packs: Alien Hunters, Shen’s Last Gift, Anarchy’s Children, and the Resistance Warrior Pack. It’s supported on iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, and any iPhone released since the iPhone X. As for iPads, you’ll be able to play the game on all iPad Pros released since 2017, and all other iPads released since 2019.
There’s no word yet on whether the game is coming to Android devices, but considering XCOM: Enemy Unknown eventually came to Google Play almost a year after launching on iOS, it’s possible the same could happen here.
Pre-order the XCOM 2 Collection for £23.99 / $24.99 / €27.99 on iPhone and iPad from the iOS App Store ahead of its 5th November release.
