Earlier this week, Game Insight, the minds that brought you Guns of Boom, revealed plans for an esports mode in the popular FPS title, with big implications for the game's future. Guns of Boom has been quite popular for some time now, so it's certainly exciting to see how the game's stunning FPS mechanics will be put to good use in competition.

This new mode, titled eSports Pro Mode, shows that the Guns of Boom team is serious about the game's future as an esport. The company is teaming up with NaVi, SK Gaming, and Virtus.pro, all major teams in the world of esports. The new mode is expected to launch in 2018. Here's why we think Guns of Boom is well suited for esports.

It's got the audience

Guns of Boom has maintained a steady spot in the top ranks of the App Store charts since it was released, and developer Game Insight announced this week that the game has surpassed 20 million downloads. With those kinds of numbers, Guns of Boom can certainly draw a crowd to competitions.

It's a deep game

Guns of Boom's popularity is well deserved. It is one of the rare mobile FPS games that actually works, and not only does it work, it runs like butter. It's easily the best FPS experience on mobile period. It's a capable team shooter that can stand up with others in its genre outside of the mobile space, making it a worthy candidate for professional leagues.

It has big the support of big name teams

Speaking of the pros,Guns of Boom is partnering with NaVi, SK Gaming, and Virtus.pro, all major teams in the world of esports, for its new esports mode. Having these teams on the roster will give Guns of Boom more credence to those who might be a little more wary of a mobile title breaking out into the professional leagues.

It has cutting edge spectator support

Earlier this year, Guns of Boom revealed its AR spectator mode, which lets you watch matches from a birds-eye view in AR. You can see it in action in the video above. It's definitely a cool way to watch the game, and will certainly give it an edge as the game prepares to break into the esports scene in 2018.
