Seamlessly melding dungeon crawling, turn-based battles, and rogue-lite elements might seem like a tough task, but that’s exactly the kind of experience players can look forward to when playing Ninetail Games' new Fantasy RPG: Rogue Hearts.
Rogue Hearts seeks to capture the same dungeon crawling greatness popularised by classics like Baldur’s Gate and Diablo, with players traversing from room to room with their party, battling monsters, collecting items, and leveling up along the way.
The game emphasises direct character control with a more strategic and forward-thinking approach to combat rather than automatic battling. Battles take place on a grid in classic turn-based fashion allowing players to thwart enemies not just head-on, but from the back and sides too. Such tactics are particularly handy when taking on many of the game's bosses like the cave troll, whereby frontal attacks are useless.
There’s plenty to see and do in Rogue Hearts long after the credits to the main campaign roll. ‘Nightmare’ iterations of bosses, for example, offer players a much defter challenge, one which is easily thwarted the more items you acquire and levels you increase.
