Fortnite has been the big hitter in mobile gaming this year, and it's not hard to see why. Thanks to some excellent marketing, and a polished experience that almost anyone can enjoy, it's really taken the App Store by storm.

But there are other battle royale experiences out there if you want to try something different. Some of them are terrible though, so we thought it'd be a good idea to round up what we think are the very best games like Fortnite for iPhone.

We've included links that will let you download the games as well, we're good like that. If you think we've got our suggestions wrong, then feel free to add your own in the comments at the bottom of the article. And don't forget to check out all the other lists on the site by clicking here. Now, without further ado, let's get on with the choices.

Rules of Survival - download for iPhone

Before Fortnite and PUBG landed, this was the AAA-ish battle royale game of choice. It's pretty much indistinguishable from PUBG unless you're really looking, although it does add bigger battles into the mix. It's got all of the problems of the genre on mobile, but it'll keep you entertained all the same.

PUBG - download for iPhone

If Fortnite is the biggest battle royale game on mobile, then PUBG is a close second - hell, in some corners of the world it's the first. It's also the game that really set out the rules of the genre. 100 people enter a shrinking map, and you're aiming to become the last of them alive. Find weapons, find some pants, and then go and hide in some bushes.

Axe.io - download for iPhone

This one offers you a number of different options. There's a battle royale mode, as well as some more traditional multiplayer choices. There's even a raid that sees you joining together with other players to take down a dragon. It's simpler than the first two games on this list, but every bit as addictive.

Hovercraft: Battle Arena - download for iPhone

A new one this, and technically it doesn't fit into the battle royale genre. But if you're looking for a quick blast of multiplayer violence, it's a brilliant choice. The action is fast, the explosions are blocky, and there's a rhythm here that's going to keep pulling you back into the fun.

Mini Day-Z - download for iPhone

A game that shouldn't really work, but somehow really does. It's a shrunk down version of the classic zombie survival game. You're in a world overrun by the undead, and survival is the only thing on your mind. Really, it's the ultimate game of battle royale - you against an entire planet filled with the hungry, angry undead.
