Game of Dice is a completely unique new board game out now on iOS and Android that combines the best of both classic board games like Monopoly and trading card games.
You have to roll dice to move around a multi-tiled board, taking property as you go. The ultimate goal is to own more property than your opponents and increase its value.
To help you, there are over 65 different skill cards which offer unique abilities that give you a helping hand during a match. There are also a bunch of different characters and dice to use which also offer bonus abilities.
To learn more about Game of Dice, we reached out to Seonghyeon Han, Project Director at JoyCity, about which games most inspired it, what tips the team can offer to new players, and what they'd change if they could start over.
What games and board games inspired Game of Dice?
"Game of Dice was inspired by two different types of games. The first was classic board games like Monopoly, where you takeover properties, and the other was strategy trading card games like Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft."
Which anime movie or series most inspired the visual design?
"The artwork of Game of Dice was inspired by Japanese animations like Cowboy Bebop and Pocket Monsters.
"Our goal was to focus on moderate designs, rather than using too many colors."
Who's your favourite character and why?
"I would have to say Mary is my favorite character. She was the very first character that we designed, and she was the character that went through most changes.
"Isn’t she adorable?"
What tips would you give players new to the game?
"If you stare at the roll gauge long enough, the dice rolled will be exactly what you want it to be.
"Skill cards are an essential feature in Game of Dice, so try using all of them until you find the ones that most fit your strategy.
"Everyone has a different strategy, which makes the game even more interesting."
If you could make the game again, what would you change?
"I once imagined Doria (the policewomen in Game of Dice) in a beautiful black dress - wouldn’t she look better in a dress?
"Anyhow, if I could make the game again, I would like to diversify all of the character's appearances more than they are right now."
