2018 is so last year. Here at 148Apps we're all about 2019 now, and the exciting games that we're hopefully going to end up playing over the next 12 months. But what are those games, and why are we so excited about them? Well, that's where this list comes in - the top 6 games for iPhone and iPad that we're looking forward to in 2018.

Obviously we're looking forward to way more than six games, but these are the cream of the crop - the ones that we're champing at the bit to play. That means our picks might not quite line up with yours, and if that's the case do let us know in the comments section at the bottom of the article.

And if you're looking for even more information about the very best games you can already play on your iPhone, you can click here to check out our definitive list. It's growing all the time, so make sure you check back regularly to find out what else we've added.

Diablo Immortal

This one makes it to the top of the list for a number of reasons. Firstly, we've seen a lot of it, so we know what to expect. Second, it's made by one of the best developers in the world. And lastly, it could be the game that really opens the floodgates for massive AAA experiences in the palm of your hand.

Mario Kart World Tour

You're going to spot a bit of a theme in the first few entries in this list - namely that they're based on massive franchises that have done big numbers on other consoles. This is probably the next Nintendo game, and we're excited to see if it's going to be able to replicate the fun of the series. Seriously, we're super psyched for this one, and the only reason it doesn't occupy the top position is that we've not had a good look at it yet.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades

The third in the big trinity of new releases heading our way this year, this is almost certainly the game out of the three that's going to hit first. We've seen gameplay, we've seen a couple of release dates missed, and now we're waiting with baited breath for this one to land. It's the sort of game that, if it's done right, could well smash App Store records left, right, and center.

World of Demons

Any new Platinum game is received with great warmth here at 148Apps, and since this is the company's first attempt at a mobile game, you can up that warmth rating to somewhere closer to searing. It's an action game designed from the ground up for mobile play. We've spent some time with it, and we're really interested to see what the final release ends up looking like.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite

While HP's first few forays into the mobile world have been a bit lacking, this one has got us pretty intrigued. It's set in the world of the films, and it's built by the team behind the awesome Pokemon GO and Ingress, Niantic Labs. This could well be the game that gets you out of the house this year - and puts you into the Hogwarts House you've dreamed of being a part of for years and years.

Shadowgun War Games

The last Shadowgun game was the awesome Shadowgun Legends, and we loved it. This new entry in the series is focused on multiplayer action, and it's angling to become the go-to-game for eSports fans on the App Store. We like shooting, and we like it even more when the digital avatars are controlled by real people. If it's done well, this one could be the defining mobile games of the year.
