Since it's the most wonderful time of the year according to most adverts, and since the most wonderful time of the year is all about the giving and receiving of presents (and probably some other stuff, we guess), we thought it was high time we found some of the best gifts for the mobile gamer in your life.

These are our top picks of the things that are actually going to make your little iOS gamer's eyes light up when they rip open their presents. Or at least we think they will - do bear in mind there's no accounting for taste and we're not trying to ruin your holidays on purpose.

If you've got your own suggestions as to what a mobile gamer would like to receive this holiday season, then do let us know in the comments. Be nice about it though, after all it's the season to be jolly. And if you're interested in what the best games of the last 12 months have been, check out the first part of our look back at 2018 right here.

A controller

There's no getting away from the fact that touchscreen gaming isn't quite as good as playing with real buttons (in most cases anyway, there are obviously exceptions - cough cough The Room). A decent MFi controller is going to sort that out. There are a few good ones out there, but we'd suggest going for a SteelSeries Nimbus.

iTunes gift cards

There's nothing wrong with getting people gift cards. Who can keep track of the things their friends and relatives are into nowadays, especially if they're from a younger generation. A gift card is the perfect present for someone you like but don't really know. You can grab them in a variety of denominations direct from Apple by clicking here.

A case

It's awful watching your phone or tablet slowly drop to the hard floor, but if an awesome friend or relative has bought you a case, it doesn't have to be quite so traumatic. There are plenty out there, and you can really tailor this gift to the individual you're getting it for. Just remember to make sure you're getting the correct case for the device of whoever you're buying for, otherwise there might be tears.

Touchscreen gloves

In the northern hemisphere, the end of the year is all about cold weather, hot drinks, and setting things on fire in charming rather than revolutionary ways. Nothing says I understand your hobby and the place you live like a nice warm pair of gloves that the receiver can use to successfully poke at their phone screen even in the iciest conditions.

A power bank

It's all well and good having a posh phone or tablet, but if it doesn't have any juice in it, you've basically got a super expensive and not particularly useful plate. Getting a loved one a power bank is like telling them you want to be able to contact them whenever or wherever they are. It's also like telling them you'd rather they played Clash Royale than spoke to you. Which also happens quite a lot during the holidays from our experience.
