There are spooky sights and sounds abound, and no one is safe from them, not even you hunkered down in your fortress in The Elder Scroll: Castles. Halloween has arrived, with the Witch Festival taking place until November 4th, bringing with it a special new subject.

The headline of this spooky event is no doubt the titular spellcaster, Morga the Witch. Mrs the Witch can be recruited if you make your way through the six-part storyline, full of intrigue, plot twists, and gratuitous magic. You can also enjoy some spooky music and curious decor.

As you complete this quest and earn exp you may notice your Dynasty level starting to rise again. The cap has been given a right royal kick all the way up to 300, so it is time to grind. Should you wish to experience the thrill of climbing all 300 levels again, there is now the option to reset your castle and start all the way from level 1 once more.

If you played any of the Elder Scrolls games you probably know about Soul Gems - helpful items you can stuff a dead soul into to power spells and whatnot. These are being added to Legendary Loot Boxes and Heirlooms in Castles for a more benevolent reason; reviving your subjects. Finally, if your best friend falls off a balcony or gets accidentally stabbed, you can now bring them back. Soul Gems will also eventually be added to the store.

Those of you who have tackled Sheohorath’s Gauntlet and thought it needed a tune-up are in luck. Every three waves you will be able to choose between favours to give your fighter a boost, which they will need against the bosses popping up every tenth. You can also receive Sheoforath’s Loot packs, guaranteed to include a rare, epic, or legendary gear piece.

These prizes are all well and good, but what's the point in crushing the Gauntlet if you can’t rub your skills in others' faces? Worry not, for the implementation of a leaderboard system has occurred! Here, you can pit your Castle Score and Gauntlet waves against your friends, and players across the land. To calibrate this, all high scores will be reset, so you can feasibly hit number one if you hurry.

The Elder Scrolls Castles is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
