The Bonfire: Forsaken Lands was a big hit when it arrived on mobile two years back, winning over fans and critics with its pleasing blend of town building and survival elements. Hoping to stoke these flames of success, developer Xigma Games has unveiled a standalone sequel, The Bonfire 2: Uncharted Shores, and it’s available now for iOS devices.

Like the previous game, The Bonfire 2 is a town building sim with survival components mixed in, but the developers have expanded on this template. Players are thrust into a procedurally generated map that they must explore and build a community on. This means charting the furthest reaches of its land and sea in search of resources to support and sustain a growing settlement.

Players must tend to each member of their community’s every need, from feeding them to keeping them healthy so they level up accordingly. Each community member comes with their own stats for attributes including strength and agility. Levelling up your army will give you access to new weapons and armour, which means they’ll be equipped to reach further territories on the map.

During their journey, players will encounter other cities to trade with, dungeons to pillage and loot to collect. At night, The Bonfire 2’s survival elements kick in as players must ward off a fearsome beast that comes to stalk the settlements. This calls for skilful resource and community management, not to mention effective organisation of your defences.

The Bonfire 2 is packed with content at launch and its procedurally generated maps add replay value, but developer Xigma Games has promised to deliver plenty of post-launch support. Future updates will add new activities, dungeons and loot to the game, so watch this space.

The Bonfire 2: Uncharted Shores is available now from the App Store priced at $4.99 and a PC version will be released through Steam on 21st August. Moreover, the game will be featured at Gamescom online later this month, for anyone who wants to take a closer look at it before they buy.
