Super Mario Run
is finally dashing onto iOS this December, combining classic Mario platforming with the instant runner formula. Players will be able to start playing this second mobile release from Nintendo on December 15 for $9.99. For now there are plenty of other Mario-inspired platformers to enjoy while you wait for Super Mario Run. Here are our recommendations.

Super Cat Tales

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2016-11-16 :: Category: Game

FREE!

This game resembles Super Mario Bros. the most closely of probably any other game on this list. Guide an adorable cat over precarious obstacles and perform intimidating feats of platforming might. The game is Mario at its core, but with adorable kittens.

Chameleon Run

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2016-04-06 :: Category: Game

$1.99

Chameleon Run is a fresh take on the endless runner. You must guide a group of colored blocks across platforms. You can only jump onto platforms if they’re the same color as your blocks (you can swap colors by tapping), meaning you’ll really have to think on your feet for this one.

VVVVVV

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2014-06-12 :: Category: Game

$2.99

The mobile version of VVVVV is just as hideously difficult and just as fun. Instead of jumping, you flip gravity to dodge spikes and other nasty pitfalls. There’s really no other platformer like it.

Dan The Man

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2016-10-05 :: Category: Game

FREE!

Dan The Man is a brawler and a platformer melded into one. The game has 12 non-linear levels, asking players to travel back and forth between them to complete quests and move the story forward. It’s light-hearted and creative, evoking that fun Super Mario feel we all know and love.

Rayman Fiesta Run

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad
Released: 2013-11-07 :: Category: Game

$2.99

A follow-up to Rayman Jungle Run, this time around Rayman has a share of new tricks. It’s a platformer turned endless runner, much like Super Mario Run. Jump, glide, punch, and even swim across platforms to run your way straight to the leader boards.

That should be plenty to keep you busy until December 15 if you feel you're getting impatient. Plus, many of these games are excellent practice so you can start right away on Super Mario Run’s multiplayer mode. December is right around the corner, so there's no time to waste.
