Steam Link Spotlight - Faeria

If you’ve been following 148Apps.com for a while, chances are you’ve seen me talk about Faeria. I reviewed it when it initially came out on iOS, and again when The Adventure Pouch: Oversky came out. I also put the game on my best games of 2017 list.

It may go without saying that I really, really like Faeria. Its mix of turn-based strategy and collectible card-battling is unique, and the game itself is gorgeous. Since its release, I don’t think I’ve played a card game that grabbed me in quite the same way.

Unfortunately though, Faeria isn’t available on the App Store any more. About a year ago, Abrakam announced they’d be restructuring Faeria to help make financially viable in the long-term. Part of this restructuring involved dropping mobile support completely.

Fast-forward to now, and I’m still bummed that Faeria isn’t a standalone app available through the App Store. But, there is a way to play the game on mobile that feels almost as natural as that: Steam Link.

Since Faeria still exists as a PC game on Steam, you can play it using the Steam Link app. I know I’ve mentioned that playing games using Steam Link is not ideal (which is still true even though things have improved), but playing Faeria on a tablet through the app actually feels quite natural. In fact, there’s little discernable difference between using Steam Link’s direct cursor control and the touch controls of Faeria on mobile.

To see how Faeria plays using Steam Link, check out the video above. I recorded two matches and had virtually no issues. As a big fan of Faeria, I’m happy to have made this discovery, and I want to share it with everyone who might be missing Faeria on mobile just like I have.
