Snake Core, from acclaimed indie developer Orangepixel, is a modern take a mobile classic: Snake. The idea is that you'll command a small army of troops as they go about attempting to take down a horde of invading aliens.

Along the way, they'll defuse bombs, save other soldiers in need, defend strategically advantageous locations, and hunt down snake-like creatures. If that sounds slightly more exciting than your average game of Snake, that's because it is.

This is an intergalactic war where you'll take on different mission types and work your way through a full campaign. There are also secondary game modes to try out, and each map is said to offer multiple explorable routes.

As you progress through a mission, you'll come across various power-ups and special skills with which to drive away the alien menace.

The full thing is playable in either portrait or landscape mode, and there are different control schemes to select from.

Interestingly, the majority of Orangepixel's games take place in the same universe. Snake Core is set just after the Gunslugs and Groundskeeper series. Other games in the universe include Space Grunts and Meganoid.

Snake Core is now available for purchase from the App Store as a premium title priced at $2.99. It's currently up for pre-registration over on Google Play.
