Run the Beat is a rhythm-based platformer for iOS and Android with a gorgeous hand-drawn aesthetic
Run the Beat is a new rhythm-based platformer with a lovely hand-drawn aesthetic that's been developed by Mousetrap Games for iOS and Android. It's a previous winner of our Big Indie Pitch competition, taking home first place at White Nights Berlin 2019.
In Run the Beat you play as Noty. A little purple creature who's equal parts cute and creepy. You join Noty on an adventure to retrieve his favourite pair of headphones from a wizard who's stolen them for some reason.
On his journey to retrieve them you'll have to avoid or destroy a plethora of obstacles that stand in your way. Depending on the mode you're playing, there'll be indicators that appear on the screen and you'll have to tap the right action in time with the music to successfully pull off that move, whether that's jumping, rolling or swiping his little claws.
The music is designed to closely follow the action on screen, with musical cues playing to alert the player when they have to jump or roll. It aims to test both a players rhythm and reaction skills as they try and nail the timing to both original and licensed tracks across the games 31 levels.
This is how you play the game's Arcade mode, with five different difficulty settings available if you prefer more of a challenge. If you'd rather just kick back and enjoy the music, however, there is an option for that called Chill mode. This will ensure that your timings are always spot on so you can enjoy a more casual experience.
If you're in the mood for some rhythm-based platforming you can give Run the Beat a try for free on either iOS or Android.
