Plants vs. Zombies Heroes surprised us all, presenting a deep deck building experience. It's a great CCG that stands up well to the competition. There are a lot of CCGs vying for players' attention at the moment, but PvZ Heroes is definitely one of the keepers. Yet despite its colorful, charming appearance, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes has a lot going down underneath, so you'll need to know what you're doing when the game finally sets you loose. Here are our basic tips for playing Plants vs. Zombies Heroes.

Take advantage of the terrain
Much like previous Plants vs. Zombies games, you need to plan your strategy around the terrain. Make sure that the cards you play suit the environment. For example, you’ll want to plant Cattails to fend off any swimming zombies, while the Cabbage-pult is excellent at shooting enemies from raised ground. Some plants even gain bonuses to their attack if placed on the correct turf.

Know your cards and how they work together
Plants vs. Zombies Heroesis lane based, adding a distinct layer of challenge to the game, but there are ways around it. Some cards have the ability to fire into neighboring lanes, while others give nearby plants a boost to their health or attack power. If you can build a deck that complements each of the different cards in your deck, you'l be better prepared for any tricks you opponents may have up their sleeves.

Don't forget your defense
Playing with the assorted plants and zombies is the best part of the game, but you'll die pretty quickly early on if you don't branch out a bit. Use the item cards, too, to grant your little fighters better health, attack and more. Tools like fertilizer are pretty valuable early on, giving you a little extra buffer against zombie attacks. Be sure to include these cards in your deck!

Plants vs. Zombies Heroesis surprisingly complex, giving the player free reign to build their own strategy. If that's still a little bit much for you, be sure to use these tips in the first few missions to get you started.
