Mario Kart Tour is adding Super Mario Galaxy's Rosalina

Earlier today on Twitter, Nintendo announced that Mario Kart Tour is getting a new racer and track. Fans of Super Mario Galaxy will be pleased to hear that Rosalina is the first post-launch character being added, while the iconic Rainbow Road is also set to make its grand debut in Tour, presumably as part of the Tokyo Tour event.
From an outside perspective, Mario Kart Tour has been a smash hit, earning a staggering number of downloads since launch, but the general critical and fan response hasn’t been particularly positive, mostly thanks to the inclusion of an overpriced $4.99-a-month subscription service. Sure, nothing here is quite as egregious as the monetisation in the grim Dr. Mario World, but it’s nevertheless disappointing to see Nintendo treat its mobile games as disposable.
That said, there is still some fun to be had in Mario Kart Tour if you’re looking for a technically solid kart racer. The lack of multiplayer at launch, not to mention the walling-off of the higher-tier races behind a subscription service, is frankly baffling, but I’m hopeful that a steady inclusion of new content, such as Rosalina and Rainbow Road, can help get it back on track.
If you’re yet to give it a go, you’ll find Mario Kart Tour available for download now over on both the App Store and Google Play.
