Battle royale mania has mobile gaming in its grasp and the influx of these titles is showing no signs of slowing down, but it isn’t all copycats of late. Rocket Royale has put its own stamp on the genre with its emphasis on crafting and a defined goal.

Although it’s every inch classic battle royale, the aim of the game is to build a rocket and escape the island, rather than be the last one standing. Players can do this by harvesting resources from fallen meteors and recycling the spoils of environmental destruction.

Virtually everything in Rocket Royale’s world can be blown up and repurposed and you’ll need the raw materials this unearths to build forts and other structures to protect your rocketship for being hijacked by other players.

Rocket Royale thrusts players into 25-strong contests that can be tackled solo, as a duo or in squad of three. You won’t find any shrinking deadzones or parachutes, but you can fast-travel across the island by using portals, in another sci-fi-inspired twist.

There are tonnes of weapons and items to loot, as well as special avatars, hammers and custom rocketships to unlock as you level up and climb the global leaderboard.

Developed by GameSpire, Rocket Royale is available as a free download from Google Play and the App Store. It’s fully optimised for low-end hardware and demands less that 100MB of your storage space.
