Flower Garden: Show Your Mom You Love Her With An iPhone App

With Mothers Day right around the corner (Sunday, in case you forgot) I figured that it might be time to start planning out exactly what I'd be doing to show my mom that I appreciate everything she's done and continues to do for me. The traditional ideas passed through my head: bring her out for dinner, treat her to a spa day, and of course, buy her flowers. This was all before my inner nerd took over and thought: what iPhone app could help me out with this.

If my mom were perhaps as tech savvy of a lady as, say Christine Morris, one of our excellent reviewers here at 148Apps.com, this could be a lot of fun. I'd load her phone up with various iPhone apps that would allow her to simplify the tasks in her day to day life along with games for her to play when she gets bored. Unfortunately, my mom just recently upgraded from her blue Nokia brick of a phone to whatever her carrier offered her for free this month.

But I didn't give up! After much searching and deliberation, I came across an app that could absolutely work for both the tech savvy moms and those not quite to that level yet without being stereotypical, insulting, or lame:

Flower Garden

The app allows you to create a virtual flower garden right on your iPhone. You pick the seeds, plant them, water them, and watch them grow. Some of them grow instantly while others take some time to do so. Once they're fully grown, you can actually cut them and turn them into bouquets to send to, oh, I don't know, perhaps your mom? While not all moms may be hip enough to be able to use this app or have an iPhone to use it on, it's safe to say that a good majority of moms at least know how to use email (which is how you send your lovely flower arrangements).

Two other really cool things about Flower Garden:

The developer of the app is holding a contest for Mothers Day where the person responsible for sending the 50,000th bouquet of flowers through the app will actually receive a real bouquet sent to anywhere in the continental US that they would like (more details).
