Finnish developers Fingersoft are celebrating their tenth birthday in style, with the announcement of a new entry in the hit series, Hill Climb Racing 3. The wait has been long and there is no concrete release date in sight as development is just beginning, but it is great news for fans of the booming franchise.

The series as a whole is immensely popular, with Fingersoft recently announcing in April 2022 that previous entries have amassed over 2 billion downloads, with 1.5 billion for the original alone. 2021 data shows the staying power the game has, with 220 million new players joining, averaging out to 600,000 downloads every day. Those are some very big, very impressive numbers Fingersoft hope to replicate in this new entry. On the series' popularity, Fingersoft CEO, Jaakko Kylmäoja, said: "Of course, even after ten years, it must be admitted that it feels good that the popularity of the game has continued for so long. It definitely shows that our teams have succeeded in their work.”

Hill Climb revolves around the career of Bill Newton, the protagonist of the first two entries and probably the third. The games see Bill and his array of self-made, often inexplicable vehicles engage in physics-based racing around, you guessed it, hills, with the wonky terrain giving the game its challenges. You race around collecting coins, breaking records and upgrading your cars to be the best racer Bill can be. The second entry even added multiplayer events to show off your skills to other budding hill masters.

Development has just kicked off so there isn’t a lot of information as of yet. Fingersoft plans to share more information about this and other projects in 2023, so interested parties should keep an eye on the official website for further news.
