Cat Quest is an absolutely charming open-world RPG that's taken the gaming world quite by storm. This game about a world populated by furry kitty warriors is actually a full-length RPG with sturdy mechanics and a lovely little story.

It's certainly a game of the year contender in our books. You should jump on Cat Quest as soon as you're able. To help you get started we have a few handy beginner's tips. Off we go.

Watch out for enemy tells

Combat moves quite fast in Cat Quest, and it's easy to get overwhelmed by enemies. The most important thing to do in intense combat scenarios is pay attention to what you're enemy is doing.

If your opponent is prepping a spell or attack, a red circle or square will appear where that attack is going to land. Roll or dash outside of the red area to avoid taking damage. As you get more familiar with each enemy, you'll be able to time these rolls a lot more carefully.

Don't be afraid to combine job classes

One of the cool things about Cat Quest is that you don't choose a traditional RPG "job", per se. Instead, your character's abilities are determined by the spells you learn and the equipment you select. You can be a traditionalist if you so choose, and go for a pure mage or a pure fighter character.

However, Cat Quest gives you the opportunity to mix and match to come up with interesting combos. Experiment with this, or even change things out based on the current enemy you're up against. It keeps things fresh and fun.

Don't forget to do the side quests

It might look like a small scale RPG, but Cat Quest is actually an open world game. Be sure to complete as many side quests as possible to prepare your character for the more difficult main quests and earn some gold on the side. Talk to everyone you meet and be sure to scope out the signboards in towns for extra quests.
