It might not have been the greatest week for new releases on the App Store, but don't let that get you down, because there are some truly incredible games on sale for iPhone and iPad right now. Seriously, you could buy anything on this list and I guarantee you'll have an awesome time.

I've included download links and links to our reviews too. And if you think I've missed anything out (which to be honest, I might have), then make sure you add your own suggestions in the comments below. Oh, and sorry if buying everything bankrupts you, it's not my fault so much goodness is going cheap right now.

Darkest Dungeon: Tablet Edition - download for iOS (now 99c)

There's nothing better than a bit of grim gothic horror to end off the week. Luckily that's exaclty what Darkest Dungeon has to offer. It's a bleak and miserable turn based RPG that sees you wandering around some catacombs while trying not to go mad. It's violent, it's strategic, and it's a little bit wonderful.

An intensely beautiful and calming puzzle game from the devs behind Euclidean Lands and Blek. Guide spirits to safety by drawing paths through the cosmos for them. It's simple and elegant in all the right ways, and it's the sort of game that can only really work on mobile. Definitely one to check out if you're looking to relax.

Gorogoa - download for iOS (now $3.99)

One of the finest games to come out in 2017, Gorogoa is a game about shifting things around. It's a little bit like Framed, only rather than moving panels in a comic, here you're dealing with things akin to layers in Photoshop. It's smarter than that though, and there's a real wonder to proceedings. If you've not played this one yet, you definitely should.

An intriguing mash-up of a couple of franchises that sort of shouldn't work together but really do. Build bridges that criss-cross through apertures, in testing rooms that are reminiscent of Valve's classic first-person puzzler. It's not perfect, but there's so much to enjoy here that you're going to be hard pressed to find anything to grumble about for long.

A stunning achievement in puzzling design, The Witness is one of the most interesting games that has ever come out on anything. Wander around an island solving a series of intricate and intelligent problems. The game never holds your hand, and while some are going to find that frustrating, others are going to revel in the freedom it brings.

Beholder - download for iOS (now $2.99)

You're a landlord who's spying on the people living in your building in this dystopian mix of voyeurism and a sim. You need to choose what sort of person you're going to be, dobbing in your tenants or giving them some leeway and risking imprisonment yourself. Hopefully none of us will ever have to do something like this in real life, but Beholder gives us a glimpse of what it might be like.

Space cowboy pirates firing bouncing weapons around hulking ships in order to grab some swag? If that sentence hasn't immediately made you want to play Steamworld Heist then I don't think we can be friends. Despite the cartoon graphics this is actually a pretty deep side-on strategy game that's going to keep you playing for hours.

Where The Room games give you a musty Victorian hovel to poke around in, Agent-A is all about hyper-hip swinging 60's chic. You're a spy who's breaking into the house of your nemesis, and you'll need your wits about you if you want to solve the bevvy of puzzles that the game hurls in your direction.

A cuddly platformer about a weird ball of fluff that's had all of its gold stolen. You bounce and squish through a series of levels in order to figure out who's robbed you, and reclaim some of the titular fortune. What it lacks in ingenuity, it more than makes up for in spirit. This is a game you'll play with a smile on your face.

The RTS is finally done right on mobile. It's not as fiddly as you might imagine, but it does manage to bring the tough strategic decision making of the genre to the tips of your fingers. There are elements from a whole bunch of other genres here, and they come together to make something that's really rather special.
