How to approach quests in Fallen London

Sitting at over 1.5 million words, Fallen London is filled to the brim with intriguing tales and mysterious characters. From the start, you’ll find a slew of quests ripe for the taking.

Even the most basic missions can branch in unexpected ways, so we’ve gathered a few tips to help you get the most out of Fallen London’s exceptional storytelling.

Don’t forget to go home every once in awhile

Paying a visit to your lodgings every now and then offers its own rewards, as you can unlock new quest lines here.

You’re also able to start up a profession within your house, so be sure to do so when the opportunity presents itself. This will set you up with a whole new spate of quests and fun things to do.

Some quests are meant to be grinded

Some of the lesser quests are actually prime farming opportunities - especially in higher level areas.

While the longer story quests offer their own unique rewards, they’re often not adequate in supplying enough echoes or materials for more expensive equipment, housing, and companions.

Instead, spamming farming quests will provide you with a decent stream of items you can either sell or exchange for goods. It’s well worth doing a bit of research to see what each of these quests yields.

Get out and explore

While it’s easy to stay in your starting area for levels on end, it’s not exactly the best way to enjoy the game. Exploring Fallen London’s numerous nooks and crannies will reveal new storylines and acquaintances. Just click on the compass icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Branching out, you’ll find new items to sell, some of which might help you save up for expensive materials you need to move ahead in the major quests found in your starting area. You might also meet people who can unlock more interesting (and oftentimes rewarding) endings for quests you may have started in other areas.

While that may be a lot to think about, it also highlights what’s so great about Fallen London - there are a multitude of different ways to approach each task given to you. While some paths may lead to more treasure and riches, all of them are equally entertaining.
