When 13-year-old Gregory Hofman got a new iPhone for the holidays, he was probably beyond excited. I know my own 12-year-old kid would vibrate with happiness. Also, now that I've seen the contract Gregory got along with the iPhone--from his mom, not the phone company--I think I'll adopt it if I ever get my own child an iPhone, too. What a great list of things to be clear about with a teenager who is given such a gift.

Here are the first three terms of the contract:

1. It is my phone. I bought it. I pay for it. I am loaning it to you. Aren’t I the greatest? 2. I will always know the password. 3. If it rings, answer it. It is a phone. Say hello, use your manners. Do not ever ignore a phone call if the screen reads “Mom” or “Dad.” Not ever.
