Mythic Mountain Review

Mythic Mountain

Reminiscent of one of the first Endless Runners I ever played, SkiFree, Mythic Mountain is simply about surviving for as long as possible as one snowboards down a mountain attempting to escape many horrors. It's very simple but it is quite fun.

Tilt controls are the order of the day here but, fortunately, they're subtle and work well. Tilting affects steering while a swipe up helps the snowboarding mythical creature jump over certain obstacles. A tap of the screen can use equipment, assuming there's some available. For the most part, players will be dodging trees while collecting as many coins as they can find. Hit a tree or other obstacle and there's a brief moment where the player can tap repeatedly in order to get up again. Frequently, though, a crazy trapper comes on his helicopter to capture the player and end the game.

There's a lot of grinding to Mythic Mountain and I'm not talking the snowboarding kind. Instead, the coins collected are used to unlock new things in the game. For instance, new characters such as unicorns or a mermaid can be unlocked. Items such as a magical sword or hammer, as well as the wings of a gryphon can be unlocked aiding progress. Coins can take a while to accrue which is where the temptation to buy an in-app purchase which unlocks more coins becomes tempting. I wasn't quite tempted enough to do this but Mythic Mountain is pleasant enough to make it slightly appealing.

Mythic Mountain could do with some challenges or quests to provide some focus to events, but it is a quite enjoyable way to pass the time. It'll appeal most to those who, like me, once enjoyed SkiFree and want to find a game similar to that again.

Mythic Mountain

Simple yet nostalgic, Mythic Mountain could do with more structure, but it's still a quite pleasant snowboarding-themed endless runner.
