While some titles set out to challenge and infuriate their players, others simply seek to give them an easy distraction for a time. Mount Olympus is very much in the latter camp. It'll rarely challenge its players, proving to be pretty easy. At times this is a good thing, but experienced gamers should be aware that there's really not much here for them.
Players control a character in Ancient Greece as they attempt to figure out why the Gods have gone missing. The story involves exploring the city of Olympus, occasionally backtracking in order to complete certain puzzles. It's a fairly clearly laid out game, backed up by a comprehensive hints system that means one will never be confused for long.
The puzzles themselves are a fair mix of types. Keys play a vital role here, often popping up in order to progress, but there are plenty of logical puzzles to figure out, too. Other casual puzzle favorites such as jigsaw puzzles also emerge but they're suitably entertaining, if consistently easy to complete. On the rare occasion when a conundrum is tricky, there's always the option to skip ahead.
Visually, Mount Olympus looks somewhat dated, reminiscent of a PC game from a few years back. It certainly won't test the iPad's technical prowess.
Mount Olympus is very much a game about offering steady progression. It'll rarely challenge but it's still kind of fun at times. Constant challenge isn't always what one wants after a long day, so this scratches that itch; especially for those looking for a family gaming experience as it's pitched at a good level for kids. Just don't expect anything too compelling. Mount Olympus unfortunately doesn't offer the most distinctive of stories, and regular gamers may feel disappointed at the relative ease in which one can play it.
