Meerkatz Challenge Review

Guaranteed to be very familiar to fans of classic puzzle game, Lemmings, Meerkatz Challenge is quite the delight for those who like their puzzle games cute and furry.

Meerkats, it turns out, aren't very bright. And while they're keen to travel to a new home, they need one heck of a helping hand to get there. That's where you come into it: by guiding the dimwitted critters safely to their home. If left to their own devices, the meerkats will simply walk in a straight line for eternity or until they perish in some way - unless you intervene. Fortunately, you're able to deploy special skills on them that enable you to sacrifice a couple for the sake of the rest of the clan.

These skills start out pretty simple. Early on, you'll be using mushrooms to leap into the air, a trainer meerkat to encourage the others to run faster, and a meerkat that stops the others from walking past. Soon enough, combinations are required for success with you able to leap further from a mushroom if you're already moving fast from the trainer. Bounce from mushroom to mushroom, or from a great height, and the leap is even greater.

That's also about where Meerkatz Challenge becomes trickier, requiring more careful thought and consideration. It does so with the right kind of learning curve though, proving reasonably enticing. New abilities such as the digging or blower meerkat mean there's always something new to learn. Gradually, if you're anything like me, you'll start considering solutions away from playing it - something that's always a good sign with a puzzle game.

Refreshingly free of any in-app purchases, Meerkatz Challenge is a welcoming package. It's cute despite some slightly rough graphics, and a fun reminder of what worked so well for Lemmings once upon a time. It's sure to be a welcome addition to your iPhone or iPad.
