Many licensed games end up being bland, uninventive titles with very little effort put into them other than slapping a brand onto as many assets as possible. Generally, these are also singular affairs, or a quick foray into branded mobile gaming with little more than a quick thought to providing the player with more content than it takes for them to recognize the brand. LEGO, however, owing to its vast array of different toys, construction sets, and building blocks has a vast amount of content from which it can develop fairly entertaining games; mobile or otherwise. LEGO Hero Factory is the latest in LEGO's bevy of well developed games, and this time the game is based on the LEGO toys of the same name.

In Hero Factory, the player takes control of the hero, Rocka, and must direct him in his quest to free the Hero Factory from enemy control. The game actually acts as an extension of a larger online game hosted at the LEGO Hero Factory site, and by playing the game players will acquire codes to unlock content in the larger online game.

This iOS title consists of a maze of industrial corridors, rooms, and hallways through which Rocka must roam in search of enemy soldiers and collectables. The more collectables players collect, the more doors in the factory they are able to unlock. After unlocking and exploring more and more hallways, players can begin to unravel the mysteries of the factory and free it from enemy control. The controls work in the standard twin-stick shooter layout. One stick moves the character around the environment and the other aims a steady stream of fire in a desired direction. Players can find power ups to change Rocka's default weapon into more powerful variants.

LEGO Hero Factory isn't a incredibly inventive in it's content, but there is a fair amount of content to play. Regardless, the game is lots of fun to play, and the fantastic visuals fit perfectly with the other LEGO titles. Players and LEGO fans looking for an entertaining yet simple game to keep them busy for a while will enjoy this one.
