Layered Review

Simple to use, Layered is the ideal app for adding an animated flourish to one's photography. Starting out it might seem a little complicated thanks to a tutorial that's more text heavy than it should be. In reality though, Layered is a breeze to use.

Taking users step by step through the process, one can add regular text, animated slogans, animated pictures, and even music to any photo taken through their iOS device. Even more appealing is the fact that such elements can be faded in or out with the animation, creating some fun and simple effects.

The slogans are a fair mix of inspirational and fun, with the likes of 'like a boss' and 'dream it, wish it, do it' residing happily alongside each other. Outside of that, it's possible to add speech bubbles or quirky aliens to photography, all depending on the theme that the user is aiming for. The music that can be added is similarly varied, mostly because it's dependent on the user's personal music collection. Elsewhere, text can be added to the user's liking with a variety of different colors available, as well as 30 different fonts to try out. Potentially, it's going to take a while to run out of different options here.

In each case, it doesn't take long to add such elements with the only lengthy segment coming from the rendering required to complete the creation. Once finished, it's easy enough to share through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube, as well as via email. It'll be worth sharing too, as some great results can be conjured up if one resists overwhelming their imagery with too many active elements.

Consistently easy to use (despite that tutorial), Layered is an ideal accompaniment for those who want to make their photography a bit more vibrant and active.
