Initially, KoolrPix Studio is a little overwhelming to figure out. Its opening screen is an array of garishly colored images with no sign of any tutorial or introduction as to the core purpose behind the app. In reality, it's simple stuff but that cluttered interface does it no favors.
KoolrPix Studio is the kind of app that will most appeal to children. Hand the iPad over and let them go crazy with their imaginations. KoolrPix Studio is basically a 21st century version of a sticker album or craft kit - load an image and add fun stickers or text to convey a particular message.
That's where the garish front screen makes sense. It offers a huge wealth of customizable templates as a starting point to such creations. Each must be downloaded but it takes only a second or two to do so. There begins an ideal way to create something without being too overwhelmed with options. Templates range from covering birthdays and other celebrations to extreme sports and comic book style celebrity drawings.
Adding to new creations or editing templates is simple enough with the ability to import images from the iPad's Camera Roll or taking a photo directly. Users can add text, frames and stamps to the image such as a cartoon pipe or silly pair of glasses. The frames are equally colorful and loud plus there's the option of downloading new items. Everything about KoolrPix Studio oozes child like appeal.
The app is a little on the pricey side but I suspect it'll entertain many a child on a long trip. It takes out the messiness of traditional crafts while keeping the fun element. Adults may feel a little restricted and unsure of a grand purpose after the initial appeal of sending images to Facebook, but it is younger audiences that will lap KoolrPix Studio up.
