Splash Dash Review

Splash Dash is described as a cross between Temple Run and Frogger (mostly because it involves a frog, to be honest). Regardless, it is certainly an enjoyable runner (or jumper), with an emphasis on fun over difficulty.

Players take control of a lovable amphibian as he bounces from lily pads to rocks, to turtles' backs and off of swamp bubbles, all while being chased by a crocodile with hunger pangs. With only two commands – tilt to steer and swipe up for a super jump – Splash Dash is designed to be instantly playable for all ages. The only hazards come in the form of random crocodiles laying in wait, and of course the river itself. The game is very forgiving when it comes to missing a piece of footing though. When Tad the Frog hits the water he will be dragged back by the current until players either steer him into a new foothold, or right into the croc's mouth.

There are a few other pond dwellers dotted around to help Tad out if need be, including a springy cricket, a speedy dragonfly, and a flappy duck. The process of collecting frog coins – to fuel the super jump meter – can also be sped up with the help of a magnet, situated on any one of the pond fauna (this doesn't have to make sense, people). Coins can also be used in the shop to customize Tad's outfit, because why shouldn't we be able to stick some wings and a Russian hat on him, huh?

Splash Dash is an endless runner that's fun for a while, and kids will certainly love the cute visuals and characters, but it needs something extra to make it more challenging and increase its replay value. While there are achievements to be claimed, a few missions or a couple of new environments would make it that much more infectious.

Splash Dash is an entertaining endless runner that just needs a tad more content to increase its replay value.
