Scooby Doo! & Looney Tunes Cartoon Universe: Arcade Review

Sometimes, while reviewing, I visualize the exact situation in which a product would be most appropriate. Scooby Doo! & Looney Tunes Cartoon Universe: Arcade is a game that's going to be best enjoyed if you're around 10 years old, on vacation, and your parents don't like you playing games with in-app purchases or adverts. It's fun and uncynical, and is sure to entertain younger gamers.

Starting out, you create your own Looney Tunes-based avatar. A choice of genders along with plenty of options when it comes to styling means there's a fair amount to select from here. You then use that avatar to explore the in-game arcade, picking out whichever arcade machine you want to enjoy. Most are unlocked from the start with others opened up through gaining coins in-game. It won't take too long and does a decent job of offering structure to an otherwise laid back affair.

The games themselves are pretty simple. There's a Breakout clone, games that involve thrusting through space, simple shoot em ups, and a kind of platforming game, amongst others. None take a huge amount of time or effort to play, but a selection of levels for each extends the reason to keep coming back.

Scooby Doo! & Looney Tunes Cartoon Universe: Arcade is very much a game for younger players, so don't expect to be taxed in many ways. It's charming, though. For $4.99, you don't have to worry about any intrusive ads or in-app purchases, simply leaving your kids to wander in-game freely. Plus, each game is fun, if basic. It might not be a game to remember for years to come but as a simple distraction during the remaining summer days, it'll scratch the itch for your youngsters.
