Hurricane Rush Review

There's a clever idea within Hurricane Rush, offering an Endless Runner style experience without sticking to tired thematic conventions. However, that doesn't mean that it's a particularly great game; proving a little dull in the long run.

The idea is simple enough - players race their way through the eye of a hurricane, trying to outlast their opponent and build up some impressive speed. Hurricanes are understandably quite tricky to negotiate with a variety of obstacles getting in the way. These can be as simple and uneventful as steel girders, but they can also be as bizarre as cows or sharks keen to take a bite out of one's character. Fortunately, each player comes with their own health bar meaning they can survive a few blows before it's game over.

The characters one plays are far from human, with a basketball being the initial persona of choice and others unlockable via the acquisition of coins. Many of these items take a while to accrue with players able to skip ahead with an in-app purchase. There's a small point to switching items around given that they have different statistics and strengths, but it's not hugely noticeable.

Controlling the object is a matter of either tilting or using a virtual joystick. Both prove pretty accurate ensuring that spinning through the various speed-up rings and power-ups isn't too challenging. Problems lie in how Hurricane Rush's gameplay never really evolves. It might be briefly entertaining to compete for the fastest speed but it's not something that makes one want to keep coming back for more.

It's functional but doesn't grip the player like one would hope. Lacking some soul, Hurricane Rush just isn't as exciting as its name suggests.
