Hecticube Review

Hecticube

Hecticube is the kind of simple 2-player arcade game that’s easy to get wrapped up in for a while. Of course I’m also something of a sucker for the “sterile polygons” look - do with that info what you will.

Perhaps the best thing to compare Hecticube to is air hockey. Two players sit at opposite ends of a virtual table and score points against each other by pushing something akin to a puck into each others’ goals. Where it stands apart is in how you’re not so much hitting your target with a paddle so much as shooting little voxel blocks at it.

What makes this feel unique (and more entertaining) is how these projectiles can make the play area much more chaotic. Sure they just travel in a straight line and disappear once they hit the opposite side, but while they’re still physically present they can case the puck to ricochet all over the place. The same goes for the larger shots that can be fired off by tapping and holding for a second or two. Of course if you aren’t you could end up bouncing the puck right into your own goal.

Hecticube is a bit on the simple side if you play solo against the AI (especially if you play solo

As far as simple 2-person arcade game, Hecticube delivers. It’s a bit overly simple but it does look and feel quite polished. And it’s fun. Can’t forget about the fun.
