Continuing on from the distinctly spooky Forever Lost: Episode 1, we find ourselves with the similarly creepy Episode 2. There's no need to play the first episode as a quick recap starts things off, but I'd strongly recommend it as adventure gamers will heartily enjoy what's on offer.
Forever Lost: Episode 2 builds upon that success with plenty of puzzles that require lateral thinking. Unlike some other adventure games, Glitch Games's title doesn't require trying random combinations or strange ways of solving a puzzle. Instead, it's all quite logical and satisfying, albeit head scratchingly challenging at times. Codes must be cracked, patterns must be deciphered, and there's even room for some minigame-esque moments, akin to its predecessor.
Photography plays a valuable role, too, with it wise to take plenty of photos of surrounding areas. These can help in a lot of cases, and a photo album is always a tap away, offering some kind of insight. Advice is also offered through the large number of hints included with the game. Refreshingly, none of these require an in-app purchase. They're exactly as the title suggests, offering a hint of what to do but not necessarily the obvious solution. It works well in ensuring that Forever Lost: Episode 2 is consistently cryptic, while not infuriating too much.
At times, the controls needed to solve certain puzzles can be a little picky, but for the most part, Forever Lost: Episode 2 uses such potential well. It all feels so much more tactile than other adventure games and it's a real benefit to the general experience.
The App Store offers a decent selection of adventure games already seen on other formats, but Forever Lost: Episode 2 is an original piece of work that greatly deserves the adventure gamer's attention. Spooky and moody, it's quite the journey.
