Diggers Review

Diggers is a very fun puzzle app that has a nice construction theme. Consisting of three levels of difficulty, this app contains puzzle outlines of abstract shapes that later turn into realistic photos of construction equipment.

I like that the “easy” mode shows the outlines of where four specific specific pieces need to go in order to complete these puzzles, whereas “medium” also contains specific spaces for puzzle pieces but also includes shapes as well. The “difficult” section includes the use of shapes, but does not have individual spaces for pieces and the player must complete these puzzles without such hints, making these puzzles much more challenging. I am also looking forward to a future update which will include an extra hard mode which will include the rotation of the pieces.

This app has a very nice visual style with bright chunky pieces and a fun use of vivid colors. I like how these pieces overflow off the screen, and one must tap and drag them to the center of the app to see what pieces they are dealing with, a little different from what one commonly sees in puzzle applications. It is also interesting that in the "difficult" mode, these pieces go back to their original position partially off screen if they are not lined up in the puzzle perfectly. I enjoy the ease of use of the game and the satisfying “click” as the pieces get put in their correct positions.

The transition from abstract puzzle to realistic photo of digging equipment or other large vehicles, also incorporating the sounds of machinery is a nice reward for completing these puzzles that my son really enjoys. Information about the construction vehicle in question is given, which my son likes to ask about and it is cute how all these details are contained on what looks like a green traffic sign, but I wish this sign were a bit bigger as it would be easier to read, maybe tapping to enlarge in the future could be added.

This is a really fun and educational app that both young puzzle as well as construction fans will really enjoy. My son is both and I know he really enjoys this fun, simple puzzle app, as do I.
