It feels like we have been out in the wild with no news on Destiny: Rising for years at this point. Yes, they had a beta test just over a month ago, but that’s years in terms of a big name like Destiny. Thankfully, though, we now have an official launch date.

The fated release is August 28th, with Rising launching on both Android and iOS. It can be pre-ordered from the App Store and Google Play for free, and as is customary nowadays, there is a milestone-based bonus system. Unfortunately, I don’t see the top goal being reached before launch.

This is because to unlock the Exotic Ornament, there needs to be 10 million registrations. Pre-orders have been open for a while, and we are sitting at 5.7 million. I can’t see that surging by almost double in the next month. On the other hand, that does unlock every other bonus, including 10 free draws. At least we will be launching with our pockets nearly bulging.

Destiny: Rising will place us in the shoes of Wolf, a fully customisable Lightbearer with a name I adore. Wolves are the best animal, no arguments. If you aren’t a fan of your own creatable character, then you can instead control iconic characters such as Ikora Rey and Iron Lord Jolder.

These warriors might not be exactly what you remember, seeing as Rising takes place in an alternate timeline from the existing lore. It is a genius idea for a mobile game, as it waves away possible deceased characters or destroyed items and locales popping up.

Every character has their own Relic that imparts abilities in combat, including Super Abilities for when you are feeling fancy. You can also pack a Primary and Power Weapon for whatever tactic you are in the mood for. There is also a new Mythic-tier rarity for gear, so all our collections can be incredibly shiny. Deadly, but very, very shiny.
