It's not so much that the longwindedly titled Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2: Foodimal Frenzy isn't entertaining; more that it's too much like so many other games within its genre. It's a Match-3 game with an energy system thrown in to encourage in-app purchases. The energy system isn't too obtrusive, but do expect to have to wait a little while to have some extra turns.
The Match-3 action is the usual kind of thing, albeit food themed. Players are given certain objectives that they must complete under a set time limit. Some tasks might involve gaining a particular score, while others might involve clearing a set number of one type of food. Others might require creating special food tiles made by connecting together many at once and then clearing them en masse. Ultimately, though, it's pretty simple stuff. Although occasionally players will be caught out by slightly obtuse requirements.
60 levels are available in all, with three stars up for grabs each time. Those stars work towards unlocking further sections of the game, so there's often a reason to replay particular stages. Boosts can be used to help one's power, but these require the use of coins that can either be slowly built up by playing the game or by purchasing them for real money.
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2: Foodimal Frenzy is a suitably colorful title for sure, and kids will no doubt enjoy the brief interludes that introduce Flint, Sam, and everyone else's favorite characters. It's not the most inspired of games, though. It's all a little too run-of-the-mill to truly excite. As an appetizer to the film's release it might work, but it's going to be forgotten quite quickly.
