Book of Me

Book of Me is a very lovely and quite special collection of interactive storybooks in which one can create custom avatars of children that are then used to customize these stories.

Three short tales are included in Book of Me, where the choices for the avatar are made, such as hair, eye, and skin tone as well as favorite color - this information to be used in the next two stories as well.

There is a Goodnight Book, which included the child's name in the title as well as the selections made from the Book of Me, allows the player to choose to be an astronaut, superhero, or pirate for boys, princess for girls, taking the reader on a short adventure based on the character choice. This also story does a nice job of reinforcing the concept of going to bed and staying in bed until morning. My son really enjoyed seeing and hearing his name as part of the title of these books and enjoyed choosing his avatar's details as well.

A Book of Food is also included, again using the child's name and includes personal choices made in the Book of Me, as well as allowing the player gets to make food choices based on their favorites which are then used to explain by food groups the benefits of healthy food choices, such as showing the child growing strong muscles or healthy bones via an x ray machine, as this story nicely explains the basics of nutrition.

I really like the level of personalization used here, and it is nice that a few skin tone choices are available as well as eye shapes to accommodate many different races and ethnicities. Narration is not added to this book, but one can further personalize these stories by recording one's own reading of these tales - a very nice touch.

I also appreciate how the info of three people can be saved at once, and I had fun creating fairly good representations of my boy, my husband, and myself. This info is saved as these stores can be read again later, but one can easily change information, such as favorite color or hair length when needed, keeping these stories cute and relevant.

It would be a nice inclusion to add eyeglasses as well because some kids start wearing them from an early age. I also noticed that the girls have a princess choice in the Goodnight Book where the boys had the pirate choice, and I would like to point out that girls may want to be a pirate as well - just something to think about.

All in all, this is a very nice app that allowed my son to personalize these stories with a little help from me as I read the choices to him. I think this will be a huge hit with kids, especially as the titles of these books include the child’ s name as the first word in each title. I too have had fun with this application.
