Treading a predictable yet enjoyable path comes Bigfoot: Hidden Giant, the latest release from Hidden Object game experts G5 Entertainment. It won't sway naysayers by any means but fans of the genre will enjoy another mysterious yet flawed adventure.
The game follows the story of Bigfoot hunter Linda. A series of sightings in a nearby National Park has provoked her into seeking out the huge mythical beast which is where the game begins. There's an ecological message within, also, thanks to a nearby chemical plant and even a section where animals must be freed from experiments.
Underneath that surface, however, is a fairly typical Hidden Object game. Certain sections require solving puzzles by piecing together a few items but a lot of the time, players will be busy picking up items such as a selection of fruit or a pot. This action is broken up with a selection of mini games comprising the likes of Match Three, Pairs, Jigsaws and the odd logic based puzzle.
At times, when collecting up items in the Hidden Object sections, Bigfoot: Hidden Giant gets a little obtuse. I found on a few occasions that it wouldn't register my taps even though I was clearly tapping the right item. Instead, I had to adjust where I was tapping so as to find a very small hotspot rather than the whole item. This did become irritating, especially when I wasn't confident about something I was highlighting.
The story behind Bigfoot: Hidden Giant is quite interesting although it does end too abruptly. Fortunately, I suspect most Hidden Object gamers are in it for the ride rather than the destination. I know I usually am.
Bigfoot: Hidden Giant isn't the finest of examples when it comes to Hidden Object gaming. I'd have appreciated more thought provoking puzzles and more responsive controls, but there's still some fun to be had within that flawed exterior.
