Apocalypse Meow: Save the Last Humans Review

"Don’t mess with cats" is the moral of Apocalypse Meow: Save the Last Humans - an arcade style shooter with a surprising amount of personality. It’s a more welcoming shooter than most, meaning even casual players can enjoy what’s here, but it’s still pretty taxing.

You play your way through various levels, completing numerous missions in a bid to unlock new upgrades for your ship, as well as defeat the evil cats. Action is immensely simple. You use your finger to drag your ship around with firing done automatically.

That’s handy as it means you can concentrate on dodging the many bullets coming your way. Apocalypse Meow: Save the Last Humans isn’t like a Japanese bullet-hell game, but it does still require some pretty good dodging skills. Often, you need to rescue human survivors too, requiring you to hover near one for a second or two. A similar action is required when you’re depositing them to safety via a rescue ship, meaning you have to stick around the same area, while still dodging attack.

That means that Apocalypse Meow: Save the Last Humans isn’t easy, but it is fairly satisfying. There’s always a new upgrade to pursue or a mission to tackle. It’s taxing at times, but the good kind of taxing. The fact you can get by without paying a thing for it is a particular advantage, although given its high quality I’d still be tempted to throw some money its way.
