Get guaranteed Topps Heritage cards in WWE SLAM

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on August 10th, 2016

Despite the obvious appeal of the WWE SLAM: Card Trader apps for fans of sports entertainment, it can be kind of a bummer when you open a bunch of virtual packs and can't find any of the insert cards you seek.

Recently, Topps has been doing more and more to fight this feeling by allowing users of all of its digital trading card apps to have a choice: Either spend small amounts of coins for just a chance at some of the cooler cards, or pony up more and get some inserts guaranteed.

The latest packs on WWE SLAM go one better, because they guarantee you one of the new Topps Heritage 2016 inserts. Styled like famous Topps Baseball sets of the past -- in this case, the 1986 Topps Baseball design -- these cards feature a mix of current superstars, WWE Legends, and NXT prospects, as well as digital relic and autograph cards.

Why you should check out the Topps WWE SLAM app

Posted by Nick Tylwalk on July 14th, 2016

Even as we move further and further into the digital age, the appeal of trading cards is still understandable. There's a natural inclination for all of us to want to collect something, even if the expense and physical space taken up by small pieces of cardboard is more difficult for some people to fathom.

Topps understands both parts of this dichotomy, which is why it's been pushing aggressively into the digital trading card space with apps like NFL HUDDLE and the more recent UFC KNOCKOUT. Now the company has turned its attention to the world of sports entertainment, releasing the WWE SLAM app this week.

Fans of the previous apps will find this one all too comfortable, since many of its core features are the same. For everyone else who's a fan of the WWE, trading cards, or both, here are a few reasons why you might want to check it out.

2K has updated their wrestling card battling title, WWE SuperCard, with new modes and card packs headlining the update.

The People's Champion Challenge allows players to pick between two WWE Superstars in a match corresponding to a real-life live event. Through playing exhibition matches, players can gather points for themselves and their chosen Superstar, and receive rewards based on the winning wrestler at the end of the week-long battle.

The Ladder mode, meanwhile, challenges novice and seasoned players alike with climbing up a ladder as they play. As players climb higher, new rewards will unlock, with statistics such as victories and prizes accumulated tracked throughout.

Finally, there's the new Ultra Rare Card Pack, which 2K claims has been made available due to popular demand. This pack allows players to acquire Ultra Rare or higher cards for their rosters and is available for $9.99.

Retro Wrestling From WWE WrestleFest

Posted by Jennifer Allen on February 22nd, 2012

The nostalgist in me is convinced that the WWE (or WWF as it was known back then) was at its finest during the 1990s. The days of The Rock, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Undertaker and "Macho Man" Randy Savage made for some fantastic wrestling action. Now, people like me get to relive those days through the latest wrestling game to come from THQ: WWE WrestleFest.

WWE WrestleFest is a 2D wrestling game, just like the good old days and offers a great mix within the roster of current generation WWE Superstars as well as the old greats of the 1990s.

What's typical of the time is the 1990s style brawling action with match types comprising of Royal Rumble, Tag Team, Gauntlet and Steel Cage. A Road to WrestleMania mode continues that feeling with the ability to compete in a series of challenges, both single player and multiplayer based.

For the retro wrestling fan, it's an ideal way of experiencing the fun of the arcade, all in one's hands.

There's a choice of three different versions to download. A restricted Lite version for free, the iPhone only version WrestleFest Premium for $2.99 and, finally, WrestleFest HD for the iPad owning WWE fans.
