Law and Order: Legacies

is keeping on with the episodes that they're releasing in their series based on the long-running television franchise, with episode six now available. In this episode, players help Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach's famous character) and Rey Curtis solve a case from 1999, where someone is murdered at a prep school. However, as they investigate the case, a conspiracy comes unraveled, as another crime at the school being covered up by parents and staff comes close to being discovered by the two detectives. As well, the victim has connection to the overarching Preppy Jogger case that the individual episodes are connected to.

This penultimate episode is available now for $2.99, with the final episode promised next month that could help bring resolution to the Preppy Jogger case. As well, for those who want to get a discount on the series, a multi-pack that includes all the episodes is available for $12.99. As well, by downloading the universal app for free, players can check out the complete episode one at no charge.

RGBSOUND Brings Music Creation To The Unwashed Masses

The iPad has opened up a world of wonders for portable music creation for artists around the world, with a wide variety of apps available to make music creation a cinch. However, many of these apps have had the all important prerequisite of actually knowing how to make music. For those of us that couldn't recognize a simple chord progression to save our lives but want to make some nifty music, there's RGBSOUND. This sequencer app offers a variety of simple electronic beats and notes to play. It's possible to just randomly flail about to make a bunch of noise at first, but then the the ability to start loops, modify the speed of loops, volume, and pitch, all through simple gesture-based controls. The initial screen at launch may not make much sense, but after a couple minutes and some playing around with the app, it becomes simple enough to master. There are no audio export options, so creations would just have to be recorded through the standard audio output ports, sadly. RGBSOUND is available right now as a universal app for $0.99.

World of Goo Submitted for iPhone; iPad Version to Become Universal

World of Goo on iOS is about to come full circle. After initially being announced for the iPhone/iPod touch, then released for the iPad, is now finally coming back full circle, as 2D Boy has confirmed that the iPhone/iPod touch version has been submitted to the App Store. In an interesting twist, owners of the current HD version won't have to pay again to get the iPhone/iPod touch version - the iPad version is getting updated to a universal app, so you can just re-download the game on your iPhone/iPod touch for no extra charge. It's not immediately clear if the game will be just one universal app, or if there will be 2 separate apps: the iPhone/iPod touch version and a universal version that supports the iPad natively. If it's the latter, it's something that I have advocated before on The Portable Podcast - if developers want to charge separately for an iPad version, then making it universal would be the fairest choice, so that multiple iOS device owners don't have to choose between an app that works on all their devices, or one optimized for their iPad. No matter the route 2D Boy takes, it's one that is ultimately beneficial for consumers, and I applaud them for that. World of Goo for iPhone/iPod touch will support 3rd generation (iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G 32GB/64GB models) and up models, and will be on sale for $0.99 for 24 hours, before going up to $2.99.
