Angry Birds Champions adds cash prizes to the famous bird-flinger

Posted by 148Apps Staff on February 23rd, 2018

Collaborating with developer Rovio Entertainment, GSN Games has released a twist on the Angry Birds formula. Angry Birds Champions features the same bird-flinging gameplay, but now you can catapult Red and co for cash.

The partnership uses GSN’s WorldWinner games platform, which has been offering tournament versions of popular titles for 20 years. WorldWinner isn’t a casino app, though – you have to beat real opponents with real skill to win any money. Angry Birds Champions matches you with players of a similar level, and then it’s down to you to show your pig-thwacking prowess.

The game features two tournament modes – Best of 3 and Progression. During Best of 3, you play the same level three times, and only your highest score counts towards the result. So you can use the initial turns to hone your aim and strategy. Progression is less forgiving, challenging you with three different levels and tallying up the total of each level. In other words, every level counts.

Players based in the U.S. and Canada can start chucking birds for cash by downloading the WorldWinner iOS app, which features Angry Birds Champions, along with tournament twists on a host of other popular mobile games. The platform has awarded players with over $1.5 billion since it began, so there’s plenty to flap about.

Words With Friends Becomes Words With Celebs In New Tournament

Posted by Ben Harvell on May 24th, 2010
iPad App - Designed for iPad

Newtoy Inc has been picking up some great press of late for its brilliant Words With Friends game, including our four star review. The popular multiplayer app is reminiscent of a word-based board game you may know (that rhymes with dabble) and is now available for the iPad as Words With Friends HD.

The biggest print title in Dallas, Texas, D Magazine, recently featured Words With Friends and its creators, fellow Texans Paul and David Bettner, as its cover feature and is now launching its own Words With Friends celebrity tournament. With 64 places available, the tournament is open to all and will include D Magazine staff, the Bettner brothers and even Dallas Cowboys’ Martellus Bennet among the players. According to Newtoy, Words With Friends is popular with members of both the Cowboys and Texas Rangers.

For your chance to play, click here and sign up before June 1.

Announcing the 148Apps March Madness Contest

Posted by Jeff Scott on March 17th, 2009

Bracket busters, diaper dandies, Cinderella teams, sweet sixteen, great eight, final four - all terms you only hear in March. To celebrate the fantastic March Madness we're kicking off our first March Madness Contest. To join in on the fun, sign up for the CBS Brackets on Facebook and join the 148Apps Readers Group.

We'll have prizes for first and second place. As follows:

1st place overall - $30 in iTunes Gift Cards (US only)
2nd place overall - 148Apps T-shirt from AppTees

Please note, to enter the contest you must have a Facebook account and join the 148Apps Readers Group in the CBS Brackets app.

And if you want to keep up on the tourney on the go, CBS has just released the CBS March Madness On Demand app. It lets you watch every single game of the tourney when connected to a WiFi network and listen to audio over 3G/Edge. We'll see how it works, CBS has always had trouble meeting the demand for their web streaming during tournament time. The iPhone app uses the MobiTV network, so hopefully it won't have the same issues.

And even though I know that Perrin will likely kick all of our butts, 148Apps staff are not eligible to win but can join in on the fun.
