Remember when Minecraft was all the rage? Back before battle royale became the coolest thing to play it was all about the sandbox survival game… though it's apparently still rated one of the most watched video games on YouTube.

Minecraft is one of those games you think you're going to hate, but once you start playing it's rather hard to stop. Whether you're going about in survival mode or just having a bit of fun in creative mode, there's something for mostly everyone.

When it comes to getting the Minecraft experience on mobile there are a few games you can dig into. One won't be surprising at all, of course, but the others should give you food for thought.

Roblox is an online sandbox game with the tools to let users create their own gaming worlds, complete with physics, weapons, and environments using consumer-level creation tools. There's a website, too, which uses a youtube-like portal interface to help players publish their games easily, and find other games and worlds to play in. The iOS version is taking off, said CEO David Baszucki, and becoming a core part of the company strategy for cross-platform gaming, as all versions of the game have the same code base.

User-generated MMO game creation engine, Roblox, is now available as a universal app on iOS, allowing iPhone and iPad users to create games together and share with their friends in the Roblox community. It's like Minecraft for game creators, and it's free in the App Store now.

These creations can then be published to the ROBLOX website and shared with other builders. Many creators have built entire virtual worlds out of components published by the ROBLOX community.
