So Many Holiday iOS Sales Oh My Goodness! [Updated x5]

Posted by Rob Rich on December 19th, 2014

The holiday season is in full-swing, which means a whole lot of iOS apps and games are going on sale. A bunch already have, in fact. Naturally this means we're putting together a hand-picked list of the best discounts and sales we can find in order to make your own App Store holiday shopping easier.

Things are already kicking off with an impressive assortment of great titles, and it's only going to get better as we close in on the New Year. So take a peek at what's on sale, and treat yourself a little.

[Updated - 12/20]: Holy moly there were a lot more things on sale than we expected. Over 150 entries are in the list right now, including some rather significant titles like Chaos Rings II, Where's My Water, and Deus Ex: The Fall. We've also updated the list with a devoted Apps section, and that's loaded down with some significant sales on apps like AmpliTube, Fantastical 2, and Launch Center Pro as well. The best part is we're just getting started!

[Updated - 12/22]: As expected, the list just keeps growing. A few things went back up to regular price (boo!), but way more things have gone on sale to make up for it (yay!). We're talking apps like GoodReader and The Hit List, and games like Machinarium and Infinity Blade III.

[Updated - 12/23]: Did the sales stop yet? Yeah, no, no stopping. Today's updates include big price drops on apps like Scanner Pro and Splashtop Remote Desktop. Well, the app side of things, anyway. Game sales are even more crazy, with sales on titles like Republique, XCOM: Enemy Within, and FTL just for starters.

[Updated - 12/24]: Nope, we're still not done!

[Updated - 12/26]: The holidays are over, but the sales aren't. Things have admittedly slowed down a little, however there are still some great games that we've added to the top of the list. Games like Type:Rider and Out There.

This Week at 148Apps: August 29-September 2

Posted by Chris Kirby on September 4th, 2011

This week at 148Apps, writer Gianna LaPin continued the 500,000 Apps Interview Series by chatting with Colin Lynch of Freeverse. Lynch says, "There are plenty of skill-sets that are helpful in creating great apps and great games. An eye for design, an ability to analyze the market and spot opportunities, speed of thought and action to take advantage of those opportunities, great coding skills, flexibility to work around problems or change directions when events warrant."

Read the full interview on 148Apps.com.

Over at our kid-centric sister site GiggleApps, reviewer Amy Solomon took a thorough look at Practice Book, a new iPad app that uses a familiar connect-the-dot approach to helping children learn letters and words. Solomon writes, "Because my son is new to creating letters, this is an app we work on together. I may demonstrate the correct way to connect the dots in terms of the up or down motions commonly used to make letters or give him simple instructions that he can follow by himself. Sometimes I hold his hand and together we trace over template in the hope that his muscle memory for writing these letters will develop. We often use a stylus as well to get used to holding a pencil to write."

And at Android Rundown, Carter Dotson comments on the new that iOS superhit Instagram is coming to the Android platform...sort of...maybe...one day. He writes, "Instagram’s CEO Kevin Systrom has announced that an Android version of their photo sharing service is “on the horizon” for Android. The app is very close to being real, as they don’t even have a team assembled to develop the app for Android. That is also sarcastic."

App Store Bargain Hunting From AppZapp

Posted by Jennifer Allen on August 18th, 2011

Back when the App Store was a new and shiny invention, I remember being able to browse the entire contents of the store within the space of an hour at most. These days however, it would take so long to browse the store that more apps would have been added by the time anyone got to the end. While we at 148apps can help iOS owners keep up to date with all the best and most interesting apps out there, even we can miss out on a hidden gem or forgotten bargain. This is precisely where AppZapp enters the picture.

AppZapp promises to be the Bargain Guide for the App Store and a quick glance will confirm that for all. AppZapp keeps track of all the price drops going on at any one time then lists them in appropriately organised lists for easy consultation.

The Live Stream is of particular interest offering a whole bunch of apps that have had their price adjusted. The difference here is that the Stream keeps track of what other users of AppZapp have been downloading at the current time forming an ideal way of seeing exactly what's popular at any given time. The Top List offers a similar facility along with the option to view the App Store charts easily without having to delve into the App Store app. Sales and Now Free sections supply apps in order of when the price dropped. There's even an AppZapp news section that informs users of the best apps out there that have recently gone down in price.

AppZapp has the potential to save its users a heck of a lot of money which is pretty impressive stuff for such an inexpensive app. It's free for iPhone users while a mere $0.99 for a HD iPad version. Users can choose to pay $1.99 to remove ads if they so wish. There's also the option to pay $0.99 for a Push Service Notification system.

However readers of 148apps don't have to worry about this as we have an exclusive code to gain that for free! All users have to do is go to Settings and Coupon Code then simply enter 148apps to gain the service for free!

Surely a perfect reason to give AppZapp a try, right?

Huge Memorial Day Weekend Sale - Not Just for Used Cars Anymore!

Posted by Jeff Scott on May 29th, 2010

Looks like the big holiday sales aren't just for used cars and mattresses anymore. In a move that we've seen repeated the past few holiday weekend, many of the app and game developers are putting their wares on sale this weekend.

There are sales from the big guys like EA, Gameloft, Glu, Handmark and more below. With Glu putting nearly all of their games down to $0.99, EA marking most of their games a huge amount, and lots of Indie developers dropping prices, it's a great time to pick up a few new games.

Here are some of the more notable apps on sale -- or at least the ones we've noticed so far. But we can't list all of them here, you can check out our full list of all of the iPhone app sales on our price drops page.

See one of your favorite apps or games on sale but not on our list? Leave a comment below and let us know.
