Adobe Talks New Mobile Apps at MAX 2014

Posted by Ellis Spice on October 7th, 2014

Yesterday at their MAX conference, Adobe unveiled a series of new mobile apps and the public beta of the Creative SDK, which will allow third parties to link mobile apps into Creative Cloud.

New 'Creative Profiles' allow users to connect to files, photos, colors, fonts, and more from wherever they are, from whatever device they're using, and from all of their CC-supported apps - with assets appearing automatically in contexts where they could be suitable. Nine new mobile apps were also unveiled, each with their own unique function that feeds into the Adobe ecosystem. The announced (and now released) apps are:

  • Photoshop Sketch - Allows for drawing with new built-in brushes and integrates with Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC.

  • Photoshop Mix - Updates to Mix allow for precise compositing and enhanced integration with Photoshop CC.

  • Lightroom Mobile - Builds off of Photoshop CC and allows clients, friends, and family to select favorites and leave comments on photos shared online.

  • Illustrator Draw - Formerly Adobe Idea, this new vector drawing tool gives users a more modern interface and integration with Illustrator CCAdobe Ink, and Slide.

  • Illustrator Line - A precision drawing app, Line features new functionality for perfectly distributing shapes as users draw and for sending sketches to Illustrator CC.

  • Adobe Premiere Clip - Premiere Clip allows users to quickly edit their videos on the move and send them to Premiere Pro CC for further editing.

  • Adobe Brush CC - Using this app, users can create unique brushes from any photograph and use these brushes in Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, or Adobe Illustrator Sketch.

  • Adobe Shape CC - Shape CC allows users to create shapes from high-contrast photos of anything, with these photos turned into vector art that can be used immediately in Illustrator CC and Illustrator Line.

  • Adobe Color CC - Formerly Adobe Kuler, colors can be captured and saved as themes for further use in other Adobe applications.

All of the above apps are free to download on iOS and are available now.

Adobe Announces Photoshop Mix for iPad, Lightroom for iPhone, and More

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

Adobe is making a few announcements today. Announcements like making their Creative Cloud Photography plan a permanent plan ($9.99/month for Photoshop CC, Lightroom, and more - an excellent deal) and further moves into mobile.

First up is Lightroom for iPhone. Earlier this year Adobe released Lightroom for iPad a companion app that allows quick edits when on the go. Today Adobe is releasing a separate app for use on the smaller iOS device. The iPhone maintains the same features as Lightroom for iPad, but some of the controls are optimized for the iPhone.

Next up, Photoshop Mix. It’s a whole new iPad application that brings some of the advanced features of Photoshop to the mobile world for the first time. This includes content-aware fill, layer support, cloud import/save, and more.

Adobe Line and Sketch allow more specific functions for mobile artists and designers. Sketch takes a mobile sketch book and adds collaboration features. While Line is a precision drawing and drafting app.

All of the mobile apps including Lightroom and Photoshop Mix, Adobe Line, and Adobe Sketch are available free. Some features will only work with a Creative Cloud subscription (like the CC Photography one mentioned above).
