Note Passing In The Classroom From Klassmating

Posted by Jennifer Allen on September 2nd, 2011

How the humble note passing system has changed with recent technology. Instead of having to physically pass hand written notes around, students can use Klassmating instead, a new app that focuses on that exact purpose.

It's a little more mature than that, though, offering a more useful type of note passing. Ever wanted to discuss something about a class anonymously? This is the kind of thing that Klassmating enables. Users can discuss things via a message board for each class while still maintaining a certain level of anonymity.

This anonymity won't be a potential problem, however, as Klassmating only supports certain universities at the moment due to its need for an .edu email address to sign up. Harvard, Stanford, Yale, MIT and UC Berkeley are the establishments covered for now with more set to be added.

Klassmating is certainly a different way of communicating! Why not give it a shot today? It's free.

Store Information Securely With MyLocker

Posted by Jennifer Allen on June 24th, 2011
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Being able to protect data is an increasingly important issue for iOS device owners. With a device that encourages its users to store photos, contact details and other useful notes, it's just as important to be able to hide them away from unwanted eyes. While a passcode will protect the device on the whole, it's useful to have an extra layer of protection. Something that MyLocker from Inspike can provide.

It's an app that works much like a safe, requiring three number combinations to unlock the information within it. Users can store various contact details behind this lock, as well as photos and notes such as credit card information or anything else that's considered important to the user.

MyLocker is a simple app to get to grips with and only takes a matter of seconds to set up. Multiple users can also be set up for devices used by more than one person. It's just as easy to log into as well to retrieve the information.

MyLocker is a free app, although an in-app purchase of $0.99 is needed in order to be able to store photos behind the virtual safe.

It's available now for all iOS devices.

Eidetiq Combines Recordings and Photos for Efficient “Notes”

Posted by Bonnie Eisenman on January 8th, 2011
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Recording audio is great, except when you play it back and realize, with some frustration, that you can't see what's being talked about—whether it's a reference to diagrams on a blackboard, a lecture slide, or even a person. As for video, well, it requires a lot more storage space, as well as a steady hand.

Eidetiq aims to combine the best of both worlds with their new iPhone app. The name "Eidetiq" is a play on the real term, "eidetic memory," or what pop culture calls a photographic memory. Loosely termed a "note-taking" application, Eidetiq allows you to record audio as well as snapping pictures. Turn the app on, and then take pictures when necessary. The app then plays back the recording with the pictures synchronized in time to the audio. A free piece of desktop software allows you to sync those recordings to your Windows or Mac machine as well.

The developers have plenty of suggestions for how to use Eidetiq. These range from the standard lecture recording—record audio, plus pictures of relevant diagrams or problems—to medical applications, such as a doctor recording a patient's description of their symptoms along with photos of the injury. Despite its "note-taker" moniker, the developers intend for Eidetiq to be much more.

"Never ask again - what did the teacher just say?" said Jason Novak, CEO, Chubby Weasel Technologies..."The app allows you to focus on what you're listening to in the moment, and then go back and document the highlights."

Eidetiq is now available on the App Store for $4.99.
