War Is Coming To iOS With Battle Nations

+ Universal App - Designed for iPhone and iPad

In just 5 short hours, the upcoming free to play empire building strategy game, Battle Nations, will arrive for iOS. Created by the same team behind Trade Nations and MetalStorm: Online

, Battle Nations promises a robust, story driven campaign, turn-based strategic combat, and real time online PVP and an interesting asynchronous meta game where players can attack their friends, siphoning resources and stoppping their battle lines. The single player campaign will grant players many different troop units with different strengths and weaknesses, like the Flame Trooper, Electro Trooper, Sniper and Sharp Shooter.

With comic-book style cutscenes and gorgeous in-game artwork and Battle Nations looks to be a fun romp through the RTS genre right on your iOS devices, and it will arrive in the app store shortly. We will update this post when it goes live to let you click on through directly. For now, here's a sweet video trailer.

Microtransactions Take To The Air In MetalStorm: Online

If there is one thing that the iOS platform doesn't lack for it is air combat simulators.  I don't know whether it is the gyroscopic tilt controls of the device or the touchscreen interface, but developers have been clambering to get their games live on the platform since day one.  The problem was none of these games were able to take advantage of the new microtransaction based ecosystem that now flourishes in portable games.

Set to answer this call of the free releases is Apple's newly crowned "Game of the Week," MetalStorm: Online.  Hitting the App Store for the low, low, price of nothing, the game features a wide variety of amazing content, including:

  • Real time multiplayer - compete against other players online on 3G and Wi-Fi

  • Multiplayer, Leaderboards and Achievements powered by Game Center

  • Next-gen 3D graphics with Retina Display support

  • Dozens of unique aircraft to choose from

  • Customize your aircraft with missiles and machine guns

  • Survival Mode: obliterate waves of enemies with a friend in Co-Op multiplayer or singleplayer

  • Perform advanced maneuvers by swiping in different directions

  • Earn XP and level up to unlock more powerful items

  • Talk with other players via the optional in-game Voice Chat system

  • Full 360-degree flight in 3D space

  • Gyroscope enables extra precise controls for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th generation devices

One notable absence from this list is a traditional single player campaign.  To some this may be a disappointment, but this is more in an effort to help harness the power of social gaming and leaderboard attacking that GameCenter allows to flourish.

Even after a few test flights I have to say that I am fairly impressed with what I have played.  Unfortunately, I have no intentions of spending any actual cash to "pimp my plane."  We're not saying that this is a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, but be careful.  In-app purchase, as innocent as they may seem, can add up very quickly.

Castle Defense HD:
Castle Defense HD takes players back to ancient Chinese times when kingdoms battled for supremacy and rule. The game changes things up a bit by providing not only real historic battles, but also by giving players plenty to do with four different modes of play. With beautiful visuals and a familiar game play mechanic, this is one to tide gamers over until Popcap finally gets around to releasing a Plants vs. Zombies 2!

MetalStorm: Online:
Take to the skies with a thousand pounds of thrust at your six. MetalStorm will put flying aces against each other in an online battle to prove who is a true top gun. Dozens of unique aircraft, full 360-degree fighting, and enough action to keep players coming back for more. Forget all that work required for earning a pilot license, this is simple and can be played right in the bathroom.

Stop the Knights:
Dracula is under attack and it is up to the player to help him defend his castle against a bounty of pesky knights. Dracula is not on his own as players will be able to summon classic horror minions and brutal Skeleton Warriors to fight by his side. Why doesn't anyone just kill Dracula while he sleeps?

iEditor - All in One:
Code monkeys rejoice, running code while on the go just got a bit easier. Choose from over 50 programming languages to write, debug, and test that next million dollar app. This will let coding gurus slap in multiple inputs, receive several outputs, and enjoy a great error and compiler information screen. Adobe Nav for Photoshop:
Adobe is putting the electronics that lay dormant on desks to work with some great Photoshop companions. One of these great apps comes by the name of Nav for Photoshop. This program allows PS addicts to gain access an abundance of tools right from the iPad screen. Open documents, select brush tools, zoom, paint, and so much more, all right on the beautiful iPad screen. Who needs a Wacom Tablet now?
