Just last month, Rob Rich here at 148Apps reviewed Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North. He described the freemium multiplayer strategy game as “surprisingly fresh thanks to a number of small gameplay elements” and “accessible but still complex and intricate.” Just yesterday (April 16th), developer Kabam released the fifth version of Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North.

The update is basically an expansion to the game. A second city is available for players to build up and fortify. There are even new buildings for seasoned players to add to their second cities including the Relief Station and the Round Tower. Also added in this update is a Might Leaderboard, High Stakes Merlin’s Gamble, and the addition of Mystery Chests to the shop. Some improvements were made to the bookmarking system, a search for alliances, more peacetime item choices, and in-chat notifications for finished items in players’ cities.

Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North is a freemium multiplayer strategy game where players build up a medieval city, train an army, and attack other players’ cities for riches and glory. Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North can be downloaded for free and gems can be purchased through in-app purchases to speed along building and upgrades.

Get Medieval on Some Sims with The Sims Medieval

Posted by Rob Rich on September 23rd, 2011
iPhone App - Designed for iPhone, compatible with iPad

Granted, there are far more Sims titles available for the PC, but the App Store has certainly seen it's fair share. It may need a few dozen more releases in order to catch up, but Electronic Arts is definitely doing their part to give the series wings on iOS devices. Their fourth attempt at miniaturizing the drug addiction-like voyeur/god simulator has resulted in a hand-held rendition of The Sims Medieval.

In this newest installment of what will inevitably boil-down to a game of interior decoration murder (we all eventually try to kill them, there's no shame in admitting it), things have gotten decidedly more fantasy RPG-like. This is primarily because of the inclusion of quests and a legitimate medieval setting, but those aren't the only reasons. There are new avatar options such as a dungeon keeper or vampire, the ability to create a guild and get help with various quests from sim-friends. There's even the inclusion of a first for the entire Sims series: combat. That's right, players can finally collect and use weapons in duels with other sims. And, of course, there's the always-present home customization.

The Sims Medieval is available right now for $4.99. It's time to get busy with the questing.

Catapult Fun With Castle Clout

Posted by Jennifer Allen on September 14th, 2011

Recently released on the App Store for iOS devices is Castle Clout. At a special introductory price it offers the chance to travel back in time to a medieval battlefield with gameplay being focused on smashing through 150 levels.

Users control a catapult as they must topple their enemies and destroy the strongholds with a variety of weapons such as the traditional boulder, bombs and even the plague.

Two control methods are possible with typical tap based controls or precision based directional aiming on offer. Getting just the right angle is vital in order to maximise the damage unleashed. Besides the 150 levels, a level creator is included ensuring that players can have fun creating their own stages using different wall materials and characters. Plus it means a plentiful supply of user created levels to tackle.

Think of it as a medieval Angry Birds but without the pesky birds getting in the way with their cuteness.

It's out now priced at $0.99 for the iPhone version or $1.99 for the iPad equivalent.

Our rating: starstarstarhalfstarblankstar :: NOVELTY
3D Chess is a 3D chess app with a medieval theme. Who'd have guessed? While the graphics and animations are great, this is still just a chess app.
